Douro Valley & the Atlantic Coast

Ericeira, Peniche, Obidos, Nazaré, Leiria, Fig da Foz, Coimbra, Porto, Douro Valley.

Departure Point

Pick up your van from Sintra and head immediately to the coast, take some surf lessons in Ericeira and then trundle up the cost to practice your new skills. Driving less than 50 miles a day means you have plenty of time to chill at the beach or grab some waves

Along the way

Take in the medieval town of Obidos and visit the lovely central cities of Leiria and Coimbra before heading to the beach at Fig da Foz

Porto is best seen from the old town but why not head straight to the Douro valley and visit the city by boat or train

Spend time in the Douro valley tasting wine and camping along the river valley before heading South again

Take a few days to work your way gently back perhaps taking in the sites of ancient Sintra as you do before heading home fully refreshed

The secret is to never drive too far in a day. Wake up late or catch an early wave before hitting the road allowing you to get to your next spot with plenty of time and get an awesome spot for an afternoon on the beach or a sundowner as the sun sets into the Atlantic
